Keeping Up With Security During the Pandemic

COVID-19 has changed virtually every part of our lives - especially the way we work. The national workforce has shifted from in-the-office to online overnight. Moving from working in the office to working from home has not been easy but it was a necessary change.

However, working from home poses another risk as home computers are often not as secure as work computers. The pandemic has caused people to be more vulnerable than normal making them a target. More and more spammers are taking advantage of this every day.

It is important to stay up to date with your security; make sure you regularly install updates. Using a home computer generally means you will have to oversee your own computer updates and will not have someone doing them for you. It is still important to take care of these. We recommend using products like Office 365 ATP (Advanced Threat Protection – for email) and an Antivirus program for even more security. The more secure, the better.

Another aspect of this is the upcoming school year. The plan varies from state to state and district to district, but it is almost guaranteed that some, if not all of the classroom hours will be done remotely. If your child or children have their own computers, they too will need to be secure.

COVID-19 is redefining the way we work and learn. Companies won't be the same after the virus is over and the workforce returns to the office. The same goes for schools from grade school through college. What's more, most companies will likely keep some form work-from-home practices. Because of this it is important to keep up cyber security from home as much as possible.

If you are concerned, we can help. We have multiple security options to put in place from email only, to phishing awareness, to computer monitoring. You can call 716.775.2211 for more help.
